Humane Tech

A web that reflects the diversity of its users.

To realize the transformative potential of social technology, society must reject the deep and systemic failings of today’s behavioral engineering paradigm, where tech founders and venture capitalists have intentionally nurtured technology dependence and addiction patterns in the name of ‘social’. Techniques developed in Las Vegas within the machine gambling industry have been nakedly and shamelessly leveraged to create what can only be called ‘social validation slot machines’, with powerful and opaque machine learning algorithms leveraged against an unsuspecting public. Firms and public policy experts must also accept that regulation alone cannot fix problems this big. We must also embrace the promise of a better, more inclusive and sustainable paradigm, that can legitimately compete with the established model.

With the leadership of Public Spaces, alongside organisations such as The Center of Humane Technology, New_ Public, and Project Liberty, a new movement is gathering momentum with the goal of creating a thriving, ethically driven, and humane digital society.
